Wegbreek #1 en #2 – Tydskrif Eerste Uitgawe April Mei 2004 en Tweede Uitgawe Junie Julie 2004

Here is the media release:

Media24 launches premier Afrikaans outdoor magazine

Africa’s largest publishing stable, Media24 has announced the launch of Wegbreek, a new Afrikaans bi-monthly outdoor and travel magazine.
At the helm will be Bun Booyens, former Senior Assistant Editor of Die Burger. He will be supported by an experienced and dynamic team from New Media Publishing – publishers of amongst others, Visi, Insig, Time Out, Drive Out and Eat Out magazines. The publisher will be Naomi Herselman, executive director at New Media Publishing.

According to Booyens, the magazine is long overdue and will fill a distinct gap in the outdoor magazine market. “Even at this early stage we have had a remarkably enthusiastic response from the public and the travel industry. There is definitely a need in the market for an Afrikaans publication with practical and authoritative information suited to a wide readership,” he says.

Patricia Scholtemeyer, chief executive of Media24 Magazines, agreed that Wegbreek would cater for a wide Afrikaans market which up to now has relied primarily upon newspaper supplements and columns in monthly titles for travel information. “The overwhelming response to VeldToe, Media24’s first outdoor magazine, which focused on overland driving and related activities, was a clear indication that the market was ready for a comprehensive Afrikaans travel and outdoor magazine. While Wegbreek will incorporate similar topics to those featured in VeldToe, it will broaden the editorial offering to include an extensive guide to travel and the great outdoors throughout Southern Africa.”

In addition to travel features, the 160-page glossy magazine will cover weekend breaks that can be planned 48 hours in advance. It will also highlight budget destinations, unique family orientated holiday venues and planning tips. Booyens says readers will be encouraged to relate their own experiences of family holiday breaks in the great outdoors. The magazine will also initiate discussion on travel trends and related issues via the magazine’s website.

A wide range of advertisers who wish to reach the top of end of the family market will be afforded an opportunity to do so for the first time in magazine format in Afrikaans.

Wegbreek, published by New Media Publishing, will be on sale from the end of March 2004 at all the traditional outlets.

Not My Daughter by Barbara Delinsky – Paperback

Not My Daughter by Barbara Delinsky - Paperback

When Susan Tate’s seventeen-year-old daughter, Lily, announces she is pregnant, Susan is stunned. A single mother, she has struggled to do everything right. She sees the pregnancy as an unimaginable tragedy for both Lily and herself.

Then comes word of two more pregnancies among high school juniors who happen to be Lily’s best friends-and the town turns to talk of a pact. As fingers start pointing, the most ardent criticism is directed at Susan. As principal of the high school, she has always been held up as a role model of hard work and core values. Now her detractors accuse her of being a lax mother, perhaps not worthy of the job of shepherding impressionable students. As Susan struggles with the implications of her daughter’s pregnancy, her job, financial independence, and long-fought-for dreams are all at risk.

The emotional ties between mothers and daughters are stretched to breaking in this emotionally wrenching story of love and forgiveness. Once again, Barbara Delinsky has given us a powerful novel, one that asks a central question: What does it take to be a good mother?

The Broken Window (Lincoln Rhyme #8) by Jeffery Deaver – Paperback

Bestselling master of suspense Jeffery Deaver is back with a brand-new Lincoln Rhyme thriller.Lincoln Rhyme and partner/paramour Amelia Sachs return to face a criminal whose ingenious staging of crimes is enabled by a terrifying access to information….

When Lincoln’s estranged cousin Arthur Rhyme is arrested on murder charges, the case is perfect — too perfect. Forensic evidence from Arthur’s home is found all over the scene of the crime, and it looks like the fate of Lincoln’s relative is sealed.

At the behest of Arthur’s wife, Judy, Lincoln grudgingly agrees to investigate the case. Soon Lincoln and Amelia uncover a string of similar murders and rapes with perpetrators claiming innocence and ignorance — despite ironclad evidence at the scenes of the crime. Rhyme’s team realizes this “perfect” evidence may actually be the result of masterful identity theft and manipulation.

An information service company — the huge data miner Strategic Systems Datacorp — seems to have all the answers but is reluctant to help the police. Still, Rhyme and Sachs and their assembled team begin uncovering a chilling pattern of vicious crimes and coverups, and their investigation points to one master criminal, whom they dub “522.”

When “522” learns the identities of the crime-fighting team, the hunters become the hunted. Full of Deaver’s trademark plot twists, “The Broken Window” will put the partnership of Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs to the ultimate test.
